If you are interested in a voice over career, you can join a voice over workshop, buy voiceover instruction books of hire a voice coach.
There are thousands of ways to spend your money and thousands of people who will accept it! As a 40 year Veteran voice talent I can give you this
old "Road Scholar's "advice.
1. Get a reasonable audio editor, there are lots of FREE ones out there.
2. Record and listen to your voice. It will sound much different than you think it does.
3. Decide if your voice is 'sellable'. IF you Google
"voice over" there are thousands and thousands out there, is yours unique?
4. This is the Most Important thing I have taught
thru my career...Practice, Practice, Practice!!!
Every time you sit down, in the living room, kitchen or bathroom ... Bring something to read!
The main thing you must overcome is NOT to Sound like you are reading.
What all the voice over schools Can NOT teach you is smoothness, that comes from
practicing over and over. Record yourself and listen closely.
Hear how you breathe, where you take breaths, how you pause. The KEY is to be natural!
The next 'ART' you must learn is mic presence. How near or far to the mic you are. Hot/hard sell read compared with soft smooth reads.
Once YOU are comfortable and believe in yourself the next step is Equipment. THE most Important thing in your studio IS the MIC! There are a lot of choices available, I am always asked what I
use, I use a Neumann. People say "wow they are expensive aren't they?"
This is my reply. " Does Eric Clapton use a Sears guitar?" If you are going to be a voice artist...Your Voice IS Your Instrument.
Why plug it in to a low quality amplifier?
There is also a myriad of other equipment for you, to make that mic sound great
instead of good you need a quality mic pre-amp.
It will make a large difference.
Are you ready? Good! Go out and 'shop' your voice...to clients in your town, join a voice bank, or retain an agent.
